9:18pm: I don't need to go to the doctor.... yeah right
Hi I'm fresh back from the emergancy room, Ray suddenly had a massive pain in his back/side in the kidney area. He broke out in a sweat and when he stood up he looked like he was going to pass out. He insisted all he needed to do was take a shower and lay down for a bit and he would be fine so I reluctantly left the house to take the dog potty and told the girls to listen for daddy. I came back and he was laying in the tub out like a light. it took me at least 3 minutes to get him to wake up (with cold water running over him all the while from the shower) and when he did wake up it took him a bit to understand what I was saying. (We are going to see a doctor NOW!) I finally got him up, dressed and to the hospital. We got there, got in to the exam room and then I started crying, he freaken scared me to death. They ran some tests, it's a kidney stone. They gave him some pain pills told him to drink tons of water and let them know around noon if he has passed anything. So he's home for an extra day this week.

10:48am: No I haven't fallen off the face of the earth
Just have been pretty busy and have finally gotten a chance to catch my breath again.

Samuel has started preschool this year and loves it. It's hard to believe that he is old enough.

Frankie turned 16 on the 28th. It's even harder to believe she is that old.

Helen turns 15 next month and is out for volleyball again this year. On the 3rd day of practice though she sprained her ankle so was not playing for 2 weeks. (One not at all cause of doctor's orders, one she got to do some practice but no games until the coaches were sure she was totally fit again.)

I did farmer's markets again this year, I didn't have the money to buy a bunch more beads this year though so had what was left of the jewelry up from last year and homemade breads. THe breads sold pretty well and before the last farmer's market I managed to buy a bit more jewelry supplies. Once I put up the new pieces I sold 2 right away.

Ray's home weekends now which is wierd. Don't get me wrong, I like him home, it's just wierd after years of him gone for weeks.

When he is home we do family stuff. Currently though it's only Samuel and myself awake and he's taking a bath. I take that back Ray's up now and hear the girls stiring as well. I'll try to check in again sometime soon

10:53am: I got absolutely nothing done yesterday
except 2 loads of laundry. I don't know what was with me I woke up and it felt like I was to the side and behind my body most of the day. I kept wanting to doze off too, of course everytime I tried monkey boy had to come in and talk to Mommy. I finally go a nap when he took his. Even afterwards though it felt like my aura was about 3 feet further out then normal even if I did feel liek I was in my body again. When I talked to Ray he said he had been in the same state alday also but he had put his off to his horrid cold.

Ok Muttly mutt (AKA Diego the almost grown puppy) is informing me he needs to go out again so that's it for the day.

Scheduele for day: Let dog out, let dog in, let dog out, let dog in....

10:57am: Grandma's bread recipe
2 quarts warm water
1 package of dry yeast
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
Lots and lots of flour*

Turn on the hot water as high as it will go and let run until it's hottest point. Turn on the cold water as high as it will go. Measure your water. (Note: the hot water trick is my own addition. I was taught I when I was making pizzas and pizza dough and it does work.)

Put water in a very large bowl. Add the sugar, salt, and yeast. Let it sit 5 minutes to make sure the yeast is viable.

After the yeast water starts frothing slightly add in flour and stir it in with a spoon. Continue adding and stirring until you can’t add anymore flour by stirring. Turn onto a floured board or kneading surface. Knead and add more flour as what was on the board is incorporated into the dough. Keep kneading the bread until you can’t add any more flour.

Grease or oil** the bowl in which you stirred the flour into the bread dough and put the kneaded dough into the bowl to raise. (First rub the top of the dough into the oil or shortening so there is some on top.)

Cover and let it rise until the dough doubles in size. Punch it down. Let it rise again. Form into loaves.

Let rise again. bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until they give a hallow noise when thumped with a finger nail.

*Grandma usually used all-purpose flour and so do I when making bread. She added that at the stirring in point you could add oatmeal or other flours in addition to the all-purpose flour. Although if I am going to add another type of flour I usually add it at the kneading stage and incorporate it into the dough by kneading as much of the other type flour in as I can. Items like caraway seed though is put in right at the beginning so they are mixed through the dough.

**I usually use vegetable oil when greasing the bowl for the raising part. Grandma always used bacon grease or lard.

This is an all day bread dough and makes several loaves.

12:57pm: Sheila's Chocolate Chip Cookies
The almond and peppermint variations
(Note: For those recieving this who are not moms or people making them for
groups, this recipe makes a LOT of cookies but they freeze well. The dough
also freezes well.)

2 cups butter, softened
2 teaspoons baking soda
4 eggs
3 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups sugar (or vanilla sugar)
1 teaspoon peppermint extract or 1 teaspoon almond extract
4-½ cups flour (can add more if mixture isn't thick enough)
2 teaspoons of cocoa powder
1 12 oz package chocolate chips
1 cup broken up walnuts
1 cup coconut

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream butter, sugars, extracts (peppermint and
vanilla) together. Add the eggs and beat well. Sift together the flour,
baking soda, salt and cocoa powder. (Or you can do like I do add the baking
soda, salt and cocoa powder in. Mix those ingredients in well then add the
flour.) Slowly start adding to the creamed mixture. Add the chocolate and
the walnuts into the dough After the dough is thoroughly mixed. Drop by
teaspoonful onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.

Note: do not add any ingredient from which you might suffer an
allergic reaction.

Yep going to start saving recipes here.

Ruth, Lon and Gwen were at Mom and Dad's yesterday so the kids and I went over. I made cookies for Lon, Ruth got handmade jewelry and Gwen a bath set. The girls got perfume, Sam a ball and I got a book of funny things people have put on gravestones. Helen snitched it when we arrived home so I haven't had a chance to really look at it.

Jealousy struck me though I admi when I saw Ruth's present from Mom and Dad, she got a 12 piece candle set plus 5 scudgies. (One for each month of the year and a candle holder.) I was given 5 scudgies too for dishes as well 2 loaves of quick bread. Don't get me wrong I love my mom's quick bread but I had taken the quick bread as a family gift until about half an hour after I saw what Ruth had recieved. That was when I realized it had been my present not the whole families.

9:43am: Cheese ball recipe
2 - 8 oz pkgs. Cream Cheese

1 - Small Can Black Olives (Chopped)

1 - Package Dried Beef (Finely Chopped)

1 - Bunch Green Onions (Chopped - Tops Too)

2 to 3 - Fresh Jalapeno Peppers (Cored and Chopped) {depends on size and how hot you want it.}

Thoroughly mix all ingredients in bowl and refridgerate, serve on Ritz Crackers. Tastes best next day after flavors have mixed together.

Ray nagged this recipe out of one of the other drivers, his wife makes it around this time of year to send to the driver's lounge for all of them to nibble.

I'm putting it here so that I don't lose it.

On side note, I'm going to try to post more often again. I've been working through some stuff and until I got it out of my system a bit I was blocked from most type of writting. The grieving process does that for me. Don't ask hough, Not up for sharing right now and may never be up for sharing.

For those who don't know I am also mobile again, we got a van last May and Frankie is learning to drive with my help. She's doing well and I haven't had a nervious breakdown yet. (Although by the time she is finished driving my stomach is in knots mostly because of her inexperience. I haven't yelled at her yet although I did raise my voice slightly when she started going towards the back of a parked car after pulling out of a parking space. "Brake... BRake... BRAke. OK reverse a bit more. Turn the wheel a bit more. OK now you hove it.")

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Saturday I helped [info]stephanielynch across the street (6 points). In May I gave [info]gwyddon a Dutch Oven (-10 points). In January I pulled over and changed [info]kayote's flat tire (15 points). Last week I helped [info]minakiwi hide a body (-173 points). Last month I gave [info]onyxtwilight a wet willie, then I took it back (-5 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-167 points). For Christmas I deserve a moldy sandwich!

Sincerely,

2:45am: I got tagged...
Name 5 simple pleasures that you like most, then pick 5 people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used.

1.) Silence. The only time I seem to get any of it is if I wake up at 2 AM and can't sleep but silence would be one. There is so much chaos and noise in my life that salience is way up there.

2) Snuggling under the covers listening to a good old-fashioned thunderstorm. Knowing you are warm and dry and yet feeling the energy all around you. I admit I also play in the rain and have been known to play in thunderstorms. (Much to Ray’s chagrin, he keeps expecting me to get hit by lightning, I’ve also corrupted the kids with the won’t come out of the rain gene.) But thee is just something comforting about a warm blanket and a thunderstorm.

3) The smell of fresh baked bread. I’ve missed it but now that the new to me stove with a working oven is coming I plan on having it again. It was funny that was the first thing the girls said they wanted as well.

4) Little boy kisses. Although I think I could be spared the little boy “I’m a puppy” licks. Well maybe not I would miss them if they were gone. On a related not Teenage girls saying, “I love you Mom” which is getting more rare with each passing day.

5) Uninterrupted shower time. I may actually get this again before I die. I know 5 minute showers save time energy water and money but sometimes it would be nice to get the shampoo in my hair without an immediate “MOM!”

7:20pm: a lot has been said about how to prevent rape.
women should learn self-defense. women should lock themselves in their houses after dark. women shouldn't have long hair and women shouldn't wear short skirts. women shouldn't leave drinks unattended. fuck, they shouldn't dare to get drunk at all.

instead of that bullshit, how about:

if a woman is drunk, don't rape her.
if a woman is walking alone at night, don't rape her.
if a women is drugged and unconscious, don't rape her.
if a woman is wearing a short skirt, don't rape her.
if a woman is jogging in a park at 5 am, don't rape her.
if a woman looks like your ex-girlfriend you're still hung up on, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in her bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in your bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is doing her laundry, don't rape her.
if a woman is in a coma, don't rape her.
if a woman changes her mind in the middle of or about a particular activity, don't rape her.
if a woman has repeatedly refused a certain activity, don't rape her.

if a woman is not yet a woman, but a child, don't rape her.
if your girlfriend or wife is not in the mood, don't rape her.
if your step-daughter is watching tv, don't rape her.
if you break into a house and find a woman there, don't rape her.
if your friend thinks it's okay to rape someone, tell him it's not, and that he's not your friend.

if your "friend" tells you he raped someone, report him to the police.
if your frat-brother or another guy at the party tells you there's an unconscious woman upstairs and it's your turn, don't rape her, call the police and tell the guy he's a rapist.

tell your sons, god-sons, nephews, grandsons, sons of friends it's not okay to rape someone.

don't tell your women friends how to be safe and avoid rape.
don't imply that she could have avoided it if she'd only done/not done x.
don't imply that it's in any way her fault.
don't let silence imply agreement when someone tells you he "got some" with the drunk girl.
don't perpetuate a culture that tells you that you have no control over or responsibility for your actions. You can, too, help yourself.

4:35am: Ok yesterday I actually managed to function the whole day without a nap and went to bed after 10. Of course I woke up at 3:30 and am still awake but hey. I looked through the company cookbook link (http://www.amalah.com/photos/the_company_cookbook/index.html) Alia put up. I will admit I use cream of mushroom soup in one dish. But I don't make it very often. (I sauté stew meat, add some cream of mushroom soup, add more mushrooms and pepper and put it over noodles.) Anyway it does get served once in a while. I have eaten the green fluff (The green dessert) at basically every funeral dinner I have attended. I think it is mandatory to serve it. You can also get it in the deli in the store here in town along with the pink fluff salad, which is the same salad, only pink and I think strawberrish in a not real way. (OK I like them both but not enough to actually question how they were made. I also usually have them, as a dessert even if they are always served as a "salad" I think it's the pineapple that makes it a salad. I am not doing to delve too deeply into it though some things just make your brain hurt to consider them.)
